DID/OSDD: The Basics

So... What is OSDD? ♥

Hey, and welcome back to my blog! Or should I say, our blog. I have - self diagnosed - OSDD. OSDD stands for Other Specified Dissasosiative Disorder. It's like a downgrade of DID, Dissasosiative Identity Disorder, for all the cases that don't fit the criteria. In our case, we don't have enough amnesia to be diagnosed with DID. We are apparently also too aware of our alters, or headmates. 🙄

ALTERS 🪪

Alters are the different people that exist in a DID/OSDD system. There are multiple different types of alters, who can have different roles. I won't go into that in detail, as I will post pages of the different aspects of DID/OSDD in detail.

SYSTEMS 🌐

Systems are the collection of people that exist in a plural person's mind. They can be as small as 2 personalities, or as big as 100 personalities! We have a friend who has around 75 alters, which is crazy, but it happens. We only have 26 alters, which to some people would be a lot, to other, like our friend, is like a grain of rice.

SWITCHING 🔀

Switching is when one alter switches places with another in the front. This is usually happening internally, and outwardly it is usually the system's body in dissasosiation. It can be as quick as a second, or can take as long as 5 minutes.

BLURS AND FLUIDILITY 👥

Being blurry or fluid is one of the pains of being in a system. Blurryness occurs when multiple alters mesh together and it can cause a mental fog or blur. This is called being fluid with another alter. It can cause problems for both the system and anyone around at the time, but sometimes it only lasts about a minute and if surrounding people are aware of the issue then they can help to settle down the mental space.
